Report on the Status of Pennsylvania’s Antidegradation Policy & Suggestions For Improvement

Our wonderful colleagues at Delaware Riverkeeper Network put together an excellent whitepaper explaining Pennsylvania’s antidegradation policies, deficiencies, and methods for improvement. Antidegradation policies are a vital tool that regulators use to assess proposed new permitted pollution and like activities will not negatively impact protected, existing water resources uses. For instance, a stream designated Exceptional Value, Cold Water Fisheries, Drinking Water Supply, must undergo a stringent antidegradation review to ensure those uses are protected and will not be impaired by any proposed pollution additions.
