This Monday Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper submitted this letter to the SRBC concerning proposals to amend its Comprehensive Plan on behalf of our members and several partner organizations.
Pursuant to its Compact, the SRBC annually incorporates for the record all its actions in a given year under its Comprehensive Plan. Think of it as connecting the dots between distinct actions and overall goals and policies. We took advantage of this opportunity for public comment to urge the Commission to comprehensively study shale gas development’s impacts on a basin-wide scale in order to best prevent significant adverse impacts to water resources. Although we do not expect the Commission to substantively amend its Comprehensive Plan at its next business meeting in June 2012, we do think there is widespread evidence supporting the need for such a study and fully intend to work closely to achieve this goal.
