On October 22 we joined a coalition of groups in urging Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett to immediately repeal new mandatory guidance for Dept. of Environmental Protection inspectors. The new policy requires field offices to advise senior agency officials of their intent to acknowledge water pollution contamination relating to Marcellus shale gas development before notifying the public! This type of policy short-changes the public by placing politics ahead of enforcement based on science, and thereby contributes to ineffective pollution management. Pennsylvania’s citizens and environment deserve better.
