J&K Salvage
LOCATION: J&K Salvage Yard, York County PA; Codorus Creek
STATUS: Intent to Sue (March 31, 2025)
ISSUE IN BRIEF:
Represented by the Chesapeake Legal Alliance, we issued a Notice of Intent to bring a federal Clean Water Act lawsuit against J&K Salvage, an automobile scrap yard in York, Pennsylvania, for continued unauthorized discharges of pollutants into Codorus Creek and improper handling of solid waste. J&K Salvage has been discharging water pollution without a permit for over three months and sampling of the site’s discharge pipes over the past three years revealed discharges of unauthorized pollutants as well as contamination of wetlands adjacent to the site.
WHAT THIS MEANS:
-
J&K Salvage is letting lead, heavy metals, and chemicals including PFAS, otherwise known as forever chemicals, into our waterways.
-
Contaminated waterways affect our drinking water, as well as our ability to enjoy recreational water activities safely.
