River Rocks Fundraising Campaign

riverbed background_edited.jpg

The ROCK, no matter its size, shapes the riverbed — the unseen foundation that guides the current and supports all life in the river. The RIVER ROCKS CAMPAIGN honors every rock, every layer, each working together to carve a channel where life thrives and the river’s magic unfolds.   Every gift —  is a rock in that foundation. Each donation strengthens the river, sustains our work, and ensures the Susquehanna flows clean, vibrant, and alive for generations to come.
Since 2006, we’ve stood guard over the Lower Susquehanna — patrolling, testing, teaching, and fighting for clean water. We’ve never relied on government funding, only on people who believe this river is worth protecting. Without your support, vital programs could be cut in 2026. Give now to sustain the work that keeps our river thriving for the next generation.

$100,000

Our Goal

Our goal is to raise $100,000 by the end of March 2026, ensuring LSRA's vitality at a time when the Susquehanna River faces unprecedented challenges.

We Need Your Support to Keep Going

We do not receive funding from the state or federal government. When our legal actions are successful, we do not receive compensation from those cases. When we host educational programs, our school district partners do not cover all of our costs. Our ability to patrol the river, monitor for bacteria and plastics, hold polluters accountable, and educate relies heavily on the generosity of supporters like you.

It takes $35,000 each month just to keep our doors open — covering salaries, insurance, taxes, rent, and utilities.
That doesn’t include the program costs, supplies, and expert support that make our work possible.

Your contribution helps us go beyond survival — it fuels impact.

Without reaching our fundraising goal, we risk cutting essential programs in Spring 2026 — just when our work matters most.

    • With our partners at Waterkeepers Chesapeake, we secured a historic 50-year agreement to address multiple environmental issues at the Conowingo Dam, located 10 miles from the Chesapeake Bay.

    • Agreement includes $341M for Maryland to address water quality and resiliency projects, trash and debris removal, wildlife passage, freshwater mussel restoration, and dredging.

    • These protections for the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay would not have happened without the work of our Riverkeeper. Learn More

This year alone, we have incurred over $40,000 in unanticipated legal and technical expenses. For the next 50 years – the length of Constellation’s licensing – funding for continued oversight costs and expert fees is critical.

    • Our staff and 50+ volunteers assess over 20 popular public access points for E. coli on a weekly basis between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

    • Our bacteria monitoring program helps to keep you and your family safe out on the water by providing trusted data right in time for the weekend

    • All processing and analysis is completed in-house at our own laboratory so we are able to get results published quickly. Learn more

Operating our own lab is costly. Continued funding is critical so we’re able to purchase sampling supplies and lab equipment for each monitoring season.

    • 12+ School Districts and over 1,500 students from Baltimore, MD to Harrisburg, PA participate in our Environmental Education Programs annually.

    • Students get to experience the Susquehanna watershed by kayaking and conducting creek studies while learning about the river's ecology and its issues

    • These hands-on lessons build the next generation of environmental stewards, equipping students with the knowledge and passion to protect our waters. Learn more

Funding is needed to cover key program expenses so we can continue to offer low-cost educational opportunities for our schools, especially those in disadvantaged communities.

  • Since 2006, Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association has made a real, lasting difference for water quality and the communities that rely on fishable, swimmable, drinkable water.

Here's some of what we've achieved:

    • Identify and address emerging threats across 8,527 sq. miles of the Lower Susquehanna Watershed.

    • 500+ water samples collected & analyzed for pollutants annually.

    • 20+ tons of plastics, trash, and tires are removed from our waterways annually.

    • 2000+ hours recorded & 15,000+ miles driven by volunteers annually

    • 9 enforcement actions logged since 2017—secured over $343 million to benefit water quality and aquatic species.

These accomplishments are only possible because of supporters like you. Together, we've achieved so much — and with your continued support, we'll ensure the Susquehanna River remains a healthy, thriving resource for generations to come.
