About the event
Join us for an evening of poetry and discussion centered on the Susquehanna River with two local educators and LSRA board members. Michael Garrigan will share his place-based poetry, exploring the many ways we are shaped by the river. Some poems will come from Garrigan’s books River, Amen and Robbing the Pillars. He may share some new and unpublished works, as well. Justin Mando will speak about connecting people to the Susquehanna through writing and advocacy, and our Environmental Rights Amendment. They will also overview many initiatives of LSRA, so if you are interested in learning more about our organization, this is the event for you. The night will end with these two teachers sharing passages from some of their favorite texts and a group discussion to get at what’s waiting beneath the surface.
Michael Garrigan is a high school English teacher and the author of two books of poetry — River, Amen and Robbing the Pillars. He was the Artist in Residence for The Bob Marshall Wilderness Area and has just begun serving on LSRA’s board.
Justin Mando is Chair and Associate Professor of English & World Languages at Millersville University. He has also served on LSRA’s board of directors since 2019, including a three-year term as board chair.
Beverages & light fare included with admission.
